9MM SOLUTION To Play Benefit For Murdered Two-Year-Old
June 15, 20059MM SOLUTION, the Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based band featuring ex-MORTA SKULD members Dave Gregor, Jason Hellman, Ed Wallner, along with singer Hobbes Caltous, has announced that they will play a benefit in the name of a two-year-old girl who was allegedly stomped to death by her stepfather last month. Michael Kowach, 22, of Two Rivers, Wis., has been charged with first-degree reckless injury and child neglect for kicking the child several times to keep her quiet, resulting in her death. The girl's paternal father, Travis Van Abel, cannot pay for the medical bills that ensued when she was rushed to the hospital, nor can he pay for the funeral costs.
"That's why we're doing this," commented Caltous. "Dave's got kids and I have nieces. It hits really close to home. We're really just in this to help someone who is in a tragic position. No one should have to bury their own child, it's just not right."
The band are scheduled to play on July 9 at Gothum City (902 York St.) in Manitowoc, Wis. alongside other local bands, including PAWN and REDWIRE. The event is being orchestrated by Adam Gauthier, a Manitowoc native and a friend of Van Abel's, who felt the need to help. Thought Gauthier declined to comment, Caltous had this to say: "In situations like this, you don’t need to know the victims personally. You can just feel it." He added, "No matter who you are, it's just horrible knowing stuff like this happens, and if we can help we're all for it. When Adam contacted us, we committed immediately."
Besides prepping for the benefit, 9MM SOLUTION have been busy playing shows while writing new songs. They recently released a new CD featuring the tracks "I Am Diseased", "Never Change" and "Visualize to Terrorize".
